Gonna revamp my curriculum

okay, folks. what did you like and dislike about 6th grade science, this year.

let's start with geology. our study of rocks and things. making rocks, identifying rocks, making sand from rocks by shaking in a jar, understanding the three main types of rocks.

how about the timelines we made of earth?

how about the computer powerpoints on earthquakes?

water? fresh and salt. great mixing bowl. the sand in the soda bottle experiments. how wells work? ground and surface water? life in the oceans? life zones in the oceans? motions of the ocean?

the atmosphere? layers, jet stream. . . weather?

space? c'mon, we need more space. i need more space. send me your ideas, thoughts, reactions.

have a great summer, kids

I loved the space unit even though it was short. The timelines were not so fun and I personally think to a little to long. The power points were getting kinda boring after the 3rd one. It was just power point after power point. Maybe do them in short bits. Thanks for considering our opinions! Have a great summer!

Here is a great idea for your class.
An experiment created jellyplants to send to mars. They are plants that were genetically engineered with jellyfish glow gene. Whenever the plants were stressed, due to lack of water, not enough sunlight, too much sunlight, etc. they would glow different degrees. I think you should have your students design an experiment using everything they have learned throughout the year, between atmosphere, ocean, plants, rocks, etc., to create a similar experiment for discovering life on other planets (even if it is just microorganisms or bacteria), testing other atmospheres, or starting new colonies by taking hardy samples from earth and sending them out there to see if we can colonize something.

I would be excited to do this :-)

great idea guess who. however, i m but a humble elementary school teacher. to mess with genes, even the blue ones, is beyond my scope of understanding.
